A trio of Hostplus SANFLW League stars has been snapped up in the 2023 AFLW Supplementary Draft.

North Adelaide pair Mattea Breed and Katelyn Pope, together with developing Norwood ruck Georgie Jaques, were all handed AFLW opportunities ahead of the Season Eight of the elite national women’s competition.

Breed was the first SANFLW player to have her named called, chosen by Hawthorn at Pick No.4.

The 21-year-old originally played for Norwood in the SANFLW but this year made a successful comeback with North Adelaide after spending last season locally with Payneham.

Dual Roosters premiership wing Pope is primed to make the most of her second AFLW opportunity, having previously lined up with West Coast.

The hard-running left-footer will this time remain in South Australia after being selected by Port Adelaide at Pick No.12.

Promising Norwood tall Jaques, the daughter of 1998 Port Adelaide SANFL premiership player Daniel Jaques, will follow in her dad’s footsteps after landing at Alberton with Pick No.15.

The 19-year-old, who stands at 177cm, is proving to be a flexible option for her coaches given she can play in the centre square or as a key defender.

Jaques relocated from Canberra this season and has handled the adjustment to the higher standard of the Hostplus SANFLW League in impressive fashion.
