SANFL Tribunal – 2nd Semi Final Findings

Following the independent SANFL Tribunal hearing, Port Adelaide forward Aidyn Johnson must serve a two-match ban and is unavailable for selection in the SANFL Grand Final. Port Adelaide forward Billy Frampton will be available for selection in the SANFL Grand Final after his penalty was downgraded to a $200 fine and reprimand.

The following summaries are provided below after Johnson was unsuccessful in his challenge while Frampton successfully had his impact classification downgraded to low.

Aidyn Johnson - Striking

In the matter of Johnson, the independent SANFL Tribunal was satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that the impact comfortably sits within the medium impact range.

Therefore, the SANFL MRP classification, in particular the classification relating to medium impact, is found proven.

As a result of the unsuccessful challenge by Johnson to the charge as laid by the SANFL MRP, the base sanction penalty of 2 matches is imposed.

The early guilty plea offer of 1 match is not applied due to the unsuccessful challenge by Johnson.

Final Penalty: 2 Matches

Billy Frampton - Striking

In the matter of Frampton, the independent SANFL Tribunal was not satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that the impact was medium as laid in the charge by the SANFL MRP.

Further to above, and based on the evidence in relation to impact, the independent SANFL Tribunal determined that medium impact as defined by the guidelines, including the potential to cause serious injury, has not been established beyond reasonable doubt.

Therefore, the SANFL MRP classification, in particular the classification relating to medium impact, is not found proven.

Instead, the plea entered and argument presented by Frampton – that the impact was low rather than medium – has been established and accepted.

As a result of the successful challenge by Frampton to the charge as laid by the SANFL MRP, a fine of $200 and a reprimand is imposed.

The early guilty plea sanction of a fine of $200 and a reprimand is applied due to the successful challenge by Frampton.
