Round 7 Hostplus SANFLW Match Wraps

Woodville-West Torrens has continued its flying start to the season thrashing Glenelg by 55 points at Stratarama Stadium on the back of a Klaudia O’Neill masterclass. 

Tiger Kaitey Whittaker kicked things off for the home side, with captain Jess Bates following suit with her first of the day before Eagle Imogen Trengove got her side on the board.

The Tigers took a six-point lead into quarter time, as Kiahni Russell got the margin out to 12 points at the start of the second quarter, before the Eagles put the jets on and kicked four-in-a-row to remind the crowd why they are the ladder-leaders.

Youngster Eloise Mackereth got one back for the Bays to relieve some of the pressure for the win-less tigers, but not before O’Neill kicked her second of the day as the Eagles headed into the main break with a 14-point buffer.

Eagles forward Olivia Evans opened the scoring in the third term, before Russell kicked her second for the day, which would prove to be Glenelg’s last goal of the game.

It was all Eagles from the 13th minute of the third quarter, as Trengove kicked back-to-back goals to give Woodville-West Torrens a four-goal lead heading into the final term.

O’Niell turned one on for Woodville-West Torrens, as she kicked the first three goals of the fourth quarter, with Julia Faulkner chipping in with one, with O’Neill kicking her sixth of the game, to finish off a dominant performance by the unbeaten Eagles.

The Eagles dominated around the ground, with a 11 more clearances and a staggering 26 more inside 50s than the Tigers.

Leah Cutting (20 disposals, 29 hit outs) and Christina Leuzzi (30 disposals, 10 tackles, nine clearances) continued their stellar 2025 form, with 16-year-old Maia Freemantle (17 disposals, nine tackles, six clearances) giving us a taste of what’s to come.

Bates (31 disposals, one goal, six tackles) and Marie Martino (23 disposals, eight marks) did everything they could to give their Tigers their first win of the season but were outmatched as the Eagles won their seventh in a row.

Glenelg will take on Central District in Round 8 as it searches for its first win, with the Eagles heading to The Parade to take on Norwood.

Sturt engineered a gutsy seven-point win against West Adelaide at Hisense Stadium. 

Saskia Reynolds got the scoring underway for the Double Blues, quickly followed up by Round 6 SANFLW Powerade Breakthrough Player Monquie Bessen. Georgia King then found the goals after a brilliant run-around snap in front of goal, to keep West Adelaide goalless in the first quarter.

A goalless second quarter from both teams saw Sturt take a 21-point into the main break, before the Bloods switched on to come out firing in the third.

Paige Allan, Hannah Burton and Nicole Hooper kicked three unanswered goals to get the home side within three points at three quarter-time, as the Bloods continued to hunt for their third win of the season.

Westies hit the front at the two-minute mark of the last quarter, courtesy of Lucy Waye, but the celebrations were short lived, as Sturt’s Summer Ross kicked a brilliant running goal to take the lead back for the Double Blues, as Zara Walsh followed through and kicked a late goal to seal it for Sturt.

Bessen (29 disposals, five tackles, six clearances) and Lily Smart (19 disposals, six tackles, eight inside 50s) were both excellent in a tight win, as Isobel Kuiper (eight tackles, six clearances) continued her excellent form, with the Double Blues now sitting inside the top four.

Westies superstar Zoe Venning had 29 disposals, six clearances and six tackles, with Emily Mableson (16 disposals, seven tackles) and Waye (16 disposals, one goal, seven tackles) relentless with their pressure in a tight loss.

West will head to Prospect this Saturday to take on North, whilst Sturt is heading down south to Strathalbyn to face South Adelaide.

South Adelaide kicked accurately to earn a three-goal win over South Adelaide at X Convenience Oval.

Former Port Adelaide AFLW player Laquoiya Cockatoo-Motlap kicked the first for South, with forward Shae Archbold quickly following suit to give the Panthers an early lead, before Central’s Katelyn Rosenzweig kicked her only goal of the day, with the Panthers taking a five-point lead into quarter time.

It wasn’t until the 15th minute that Cockatoo-Motlap broke through with her second goal of the day, with Panthers superstar ruck Soriah Moon chipping in with her first goal of the day, as the Doggies went goalless in the second quarter to give South a handy 15-point lead heading into half-time.

Central’s Tesharna Maher added a goal in the third quarter to go with her 20 disposals and nine clearances, with Alysha Healy quickly following up with her first for the day, which would prove to be the Doggies last of the game. Lily Baxter kicked truly to give South a seven-point lead heading into the last quarter.

South forward Emily Brockhurst kicked her second goal of the season to extend the lead out to 13-points for the visitors, with Archbold kicking her second to seal the win for the Panthers, as South remain second on the ladder, with Central dropping out of the top four.

Although the Doggies recorded 33 inside 50s to South’s 28, they struggled to find the goals, kicking 3.7 compared to South’s 7.1.

Moon was up to her usual tricks, with a staggering 42 hit outs, 27 disposals, one goal, five tackles and nine clearances, in one of the best individual performances of season 2025 so far. She was well supported by young midfielder Emma Charlton (22 disposals, eight clearances) and Taya Maxwell (17 disposals, seven clearances, six inside 5os).

Central’s Dakota Williams was huge for the Doggies with 17 disposals, nine tackles and eight clearances, with her side recording 33 more tackles than the winners.

The Doggies will head to the Bay in Round 8 to take on Glenelg, with South Adelaide heading to Strathalbyn to host Sturt in a Sunday afternoon clash.

North Adelaide produced a strong 21-point win over Norwood on the back of five unanswered goals at Prospect Oval.

Broadview product Zara Molloy got North off to a hot start with the first goal of the game, before back-to-back goals to Norwood’s Kiana Lee put the visitors six-points up at quarter time – their only lead of the game.

Roosters’ captain Amber Ward found the goals via a quick handball from Molloy to kick her first, before collecting her own ball from a ruck tap to slot her second for the match, as North took a slight six-point lead heading into half-time.

SANFLW best-on-ground medallist against the WAFLW, Laela Ebert, kicked a brilliant running goal to get things going again as North capitalised on its inside 50s, recording five more than the Redlegs.

Onballer Ashleigh George kicked her first goal of the season to go with her 17 disposals and seven tackles, bending around the body to extend the lead to 16-points, with Molloy evading a tackle from Norwood’s Amelia Rusden to score her second of the day.

Heading into the final term with a 22-point lead, Norwood’s Mykaela Walker took a strong mark in the square to kick the Redlegs’ first goal since the first quarter, before North’s Julia Clark kicked truly from a set shot to get one back for the home side.

Rusden kicked a fantastic running goal for the Redlegs to reduce the margin back to 16 points, but it was Aprille Crooks who stole the show, with an early goal of the year contender.

The North forward collected the ball from the centre square and put the jets on, streaming away from her opponent to take a bounce and continued her run, to kick a superb goal from 25 metres out.

Clark (18 disposals, one goal, 11 tackles, six clearances) was brilliant in North’s win, along with Ebert (21 disposals, one goal) and Erin Sunstrom (14 disposals, seven tackles).

Jade Halfpenny was Norwood’s best with 20 disposals, six tackles and six clearances, with Candice Belbin (14 disposals, five tackles, four clearances) and Sophie Arkun (13 disposals, five marks, four tackles) battling hard for the Redlegs.

The Roosters will turn their attention to hosting West Adelaide this Saturday, as Norwood host the unbeaten Woodville-West Torrens at Coopers Stadium.
