Modbury Football Club’s outstanding season on and off-field has seen it win the 2025 SANFL Juniors Club of the Year Award.
Introduced by SANFL five years ago, the award recognises excellence throughout the season in club governance, club development, volunteers and behaviour through a points system, with the winner showing outstanding performance across all areas.
The Modbury Hawks narrowly edged out Colonel Light Gardens, with previous winners Plympton and Houghton Districts placed third and fourth respectively.
As well as reporting strong player retention, coupled with a 10 per cent increase in club members on 2024 figures, the Hawks excelled in the volunteer participation category.
Modbury had a flawless 100 percent ratio of at least one accredited Coach and Ground Marshall in each grade while having more than five per cent of its players also umpire in the SANFL Juniors competition.
It also delivered a strong Auskick program to foster development from entry-age level, with more than 80 participants in 2025.
Modbury Chairman Peter Berlemon''We value our volunteer network and try to make things as easy as possible for them.''
”This in an outstanding achievement and a testament to the commitment and dedication of our committee, coaches and many volunteers who work tirelessly throughout the season to get over 380 players on the park each week,” Modbury Chairman Peter Berlemon said.
”As a club with a history of over 160 years, this reflects the hard work, dedication and passion shown by our players, coaches, and volunteers.
”Our girls program has seen great success over the past few years and continues to grow with two of our girls drafted into the AFLW this year. Also, our Auskick program which included over 80 players participating in Term 2, provides a great pathway into SANFL Juniors for 2026.”
Mr Berlemon paid tribute to the Hawks’ army of volunteers for making the club such a successful and enjoyable environment for all participants.
”We value our volunteer network and try to make things as easy as possible for them,” he said.
”Streamline what we can, and give the support required to ensure people enjoy their time as a volunteer and its not a burden. Social media is a great tool for whole of club communications, along with individual team pages for more targeted information. Keep it easy, keep it fun, and people will help. Teamwork is the key!”
