Matt’s run to 100 games is second to Nunn

Norwood co-captain Matthew Nunn is excited to join club legend Garry McIntosh on the No.14 locker at The Parade when he plays his 100th Hostplus SANFL League game on Monday.

Set to line-up in his milestone match against South on the King’s Birthday holiday, the Redlegs premiership skipper is proud his name will forever feature alongside the man known as ”Macca” at The Parade.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, Nunn said he has grown to love embracing the expectation which comes with wearing No.14 in red and blue after making his League debut as a 16-year-old in 2014.

Now 26, the dynamic midfielder spent 46 Reserves games through injuries and form before establishing himself in the League team during the club’s run to the 2018 Grand Final.

And while that campaign ended with a shattering loss to North Adelaide, Nunn was one of three players together with Matt Panos and Declan Hamilton to gain revenge against the Roosters in last year’s incredible premiership triumph.

It wasn’t until he stood on the dais holding the Thomas Seymour Hill trophy with coach Jade Rawlings that Nunn realised what he had achieved as the Redlegs captain.

But he was also quick to pay tribute to teammate Jacob Kennerley, who was the acting skipper for much of last year when Nunn was sidelined with an ankle injury.

Rawlings and Kennerley have both been incredibly supportive of Nunn, who asked to share the captaincy load with Kennerley earlier this season to assist with his own mental health.

The qualified electrician is incredibly forthright in his determination to continue the discussion around men’s mental health, a tribute to his character in helping others along with himself.
