Glenelg premiership forward Lachie Hosie could have easily been wearing a Woodville-West Torrens guernsey if things had panned out differently.

Playing his junior footy at Henley, the slender forward – set to play his 100th Hostplus SANFL League game in Sunday’s Second Semi Final – was delisted from the Eagles’ Under-16 program after a handful of matches.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, the 28-year-old admitted he was a late bloomer so was also very grateful to receive his opportunity to trial for place in Glenelg’s Under-18 team in 2015.

This came about because, for one year, the Tigers’ metropolitan zone included the Henley Beach area, before it was handed back to the Eagles.

After doubting he would be kept on after his first training session at Brighton Road, the dual Ken Farmer Medallist ended up making his Hostplus SANFL League debut in Round 7 of 2016.

But he again found himself ”at the crossroads” for not ”taking it seriously” the next year after being sent back to play at Henley.

The Tigers’ No.20 had his turning point in 2018 when he lined up in 13 League games under new coach Mark Stone..

It was just the spark the athletic spearhead required as he went on to be selected by North Melbourne in the 2019 AFL Mid Season Draft.

Hosie’s time at Arden Street lasted less than a season but rather than feel a sense of disappointment, he celebrated with vigour when his teammates broke a 33-year premiership drought in 2019.

Witnessing this success has since driven him to taste it himself, which he has done in style for the past two seasons in 2023 and 2024.

Winning a Jack Oatey Medal with six goals in 2023 and playing a key role in the final quarter comeback last season, Hosie thrives on performing in the big moments.

His connection with fellow Glenelg forwards Liam McBean and Luke Reynolds will go down in club history as one of the most successful, with the trio contributing 956 goals between them.

Off the field, Hosie is thriving with his own business installing and maintaining household pools.
