Liam’s lifestyle the key to reaching 150 games

Glenelg's Liam McBean will play his 150th Hostplus SANFL League match against Adelaide in Sunday's Qualifying Final.

Glenelg premiership captain Liam McBean is in no doubt about the catalyst to him reaching 150 Hostplus SANFL League games.

As the Tigers’ fan favourite prepares for his milestone match against Adelaide in Sunday’s Qualifying Final, he declared his balanced lifestyle off the field played a strong role in his stunning on-field performances.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, the 31-year-old is relishing the chance to work in the recruitment industry with his wife Amber and now, teammate Matt Allen.

The former Victorian is now so well settled in Adelaide, he is ready to declare himself a South Australian after embracing the honour of captaining the West End State team.

And while he has cherished the opportunity to wear the cherished red guernsey, he loves nothing more than playing a major role in the Bays’ push to secure three premierships in succession for the first time in club history.

Refreshed by the recent injection of teammates Darcy Scott and Latrelle Pickett into the line-up, McBean has formed a lethal three-way combination with teammates Lachie Hosie and Luke Reynolds for the majority of his career.

The triple Ken Farmer Medallist is still hitting the scoreboard with an element of ease, kicking 48 majors in the minor round this season for a career tally of 372.

But just as he did for long periods in 2022, Glenelg’s No.5 is more than prepared to lend a hand in the ruck just as the Bays’ most famous No.5, Peter Carey, did with distinction throughout his career.

Now the next aim for McBean is to go one better than Super Carey by claiming a fourth premiership medallion on September 21.
