Dual Glenelg premiership coach Darren Reeves will depart the club to take on an AFL Assistant Coach role with Port Adelaide.

While his contract was recently extended until 2028, Glenelg today said the significant and attractive long-term coaching offer from PAFC late last week was “too good an opportunity to refuse”.

“I have been fortunate and honoured to have the opportunity to coach the Glenelg Football Club over the last three years,” outgoing coach Reeves said.

“The successes aside, the relationships and friendships that I can take away are amazing.

“Whilst the opportunity that has come with Port Adelaide was hard not to accept, I am confident in where the Glenelg Football Club is at, and what the future holds.

“I’m incredibly grateful to all our players and football staff for their support and look forward to watching the progress continue over the next few years.”

Glenelg CEO Justin Scripps said:

“Like all of us, our members and fans will be disappointed at losing one of the best and most successful coaches in Glenelg’s history.

“Darren has left a legacy at our club that will transcend his time here. He has built a highly connected squad of players and a high-performance culture, which will sustain our club for years to come.”

Joining Great of Glenelg Graham Cornes as only the second mentor to guide the club to back-to-back premierships in his first two seasons, Reeves steered the club into second place after the minor round with a 15-3 win-loss record.

He guided Glenelg to its third Hostplus SANFL League grand final appearance in three years in 2025, with the Bays falling at the final hurdle to Sturt.

Glenelg will commence the recruitment process immediately in preparation for the 2026 season.
