Casey Voss could have shied away from his major move to South Australia in his mid-teens.
Instead, the Sturt superstar has embraced the change south as he prepares for his 100th Hostplus SANFL League game against Adelaide at Thomas Farms Oval on Saturday.
Speaking on SANFL Radio, the 24-year-old said the shift from Queensland with his family – chiefly due to his father Michael joining Port Adelaide as an assistant coach – was the best thing for him on and off the field.
Initially living on the western side of Adelaide, Voss played for PHOS Camden before lining up for Glenelg in three SANFL Under-16 games in 2016.
A move across town was the catalyst to arrive at Unley, a place which has since become special to Voss, who played in 29 Reserves matches before earning his League debut with the Double Blues in 2019.
The dashing half-back hasn’t been dropped since his breakout season in 2020 while becoming a fixture in Sturt’s back six with the occasional stint on the wing.
Lining up in four games for the West End State team, Voss claimed the Fos Williams Medal in 2022 for his stunning display against the WAFL in Perth.
At the time, speculation mounted he could be handed an AFL opportunity through the Mid-Season Draft.
Sturt’s No.34 hasn’t had his name called but he couldn’t be happier with how his life has panned out, enjoying his off-field role as an engineering consultant while also forming a partnership with fellow Double Blue, Isobel Kuiper.
Now all that is left to do is secure a treasured premiership medallion with Sturt, his team currently sitting on top of the table with an unblemished 6-0 win-loss record.
