Norwood goalsneak Baynen Lowe has won the 7News SANFL Goal of the Year Award for his miracle left foot snap against Central District in Round 7.

One of five players shortlisted to win the award, the 19-year-old edged out Redlegs teammates Matt Panos, Port’s Anthony Wilson and South Adelaide pair Ryan Garthwaite and Kim Kantilla to capture the most votes from SANFL fans.

Speaking on Checkside Chats last week, Lowe said his eye-catching major – kicked on his non-preferred foot while in mid-air – wasn’t planned.

”It was a fluke,” he said with a laugh.

”I still can’t believe that it went through. I haven’t taken it too seriously, it has more been a bit of a laugh with mates that it actually did go through.

”I would like to say I was doing the team thing and kicking it to the top of the (goal) square but that wasn’t the case.

”I might be able to pull that one out every now and then to show a couple of people.”
