Sturt premiership wingman Steven Slimming is embracing the importance of his 150th Hostplus SANFL League game against Glenelg in Sunday’s First Semi-Final at Adelaide Oval.
The 26-year-old will be desperate to extend his Double Blues’ season for another week after providing his trademark outside run and neat delivery in his team’s Qualifying Final loss to Central District.
Speaking on SANFL Radio, Slimming admitted he had this week reflected on his first season of senior football in 2017, when Sturt rebounded from a loss in the Qualifying Final to win the premiership by a point against arch-rival Port Adelaide.
Sturt’s No.39 is keen to atone for last year’s loss to the Tigers in the title-decider by ending their season on Sunday, thriving on his role of playing on the outside of star midfield trio James Battersby, Will Snelling and Tom Lewis.
Slimming revealed the presence of Snelling this year had been beneficial for his development, with the former Essendon midfielder providing plenty of insight at team meetings during the week.
Still relishing his employment in corporate law, Slimming learned plenty during his first full season of senior football, playing alongside the likes of past captain Zane Kirkwood and Jack Oatey Medallist Jack Stephens.
Now the Unley Jets junior is enjoying passing on their wisdom to the new crew flowing through at Unley, including the likes of Zac Becker, Angus Anderson and Luke Giacometti.
