SANFL and the SA Football Commission congratulate Woodville-West Torrens President and League Director Christine Williams who has been fittingly recognised in the 2026 Australia Day honours list.

Ms Williams, who was elected President in 2020, has displayed outstanding commitment since beginning her tenure on the Eagles’ board of directors 18 years ago, also performing the role of Finance Director.

Earning a SANFL Service Award in 2024, Ms Williams played an integral part in guiding the club through the challenging Covid-19 period.

She has also been honoured with the naming of the Christine Williams Trademark Medal, awarded annually to the Eagles’ SANFLW player who displays the club’s trademark values throughout the season.

”SANFL and the SA Football Commission is delighted Christine’s outstanding contribution to football in South Australia has been recognised with an Order of Australia Medal,” SA Football Commission Chairman Rob Kerin said.

”Christine continues to leave a lasting legacy whilst leading the Eagles through her unwavering commitment whether it be in her role as League Director, President, Finance Director or even acting as an on-field trainer for both the Men’s and Women’s programs.

”I’m sure this will be a proud moment for Christine, her family and the entire Woodville-West Torrens Football Club.”

The SANFL also congratulates long-serving South Australian community football volunteers Craig Warman and Dr William Gransbury who were recipients of the Order of Australia Medal.

Mr Warman recently retired after more than three decades of service to the O’Sullivan Beach Football Club and Southern Football League, where he served as President.

Dr Gransbury was recognised for his service to the Angaston community, including 25 years as club doctor for the Angaston Football Club.

Other recipients of Australia Day honours (Member of the Order of Australia) for their service to football and with a South Australian connection were former AFL executive Tany Hosch and Tuck Waldron, who previously played with South Adelaide.

Adelaide-born Ms Hosch was honoured for her role as an advocate for diversity and inclusion, including her past role as AFL Executive General Manager Inclusion and Social Policy.
