Excitement is building for the 2025 SANFL APY League Finals Series which is set to kick off on Saturday with a double-header at Mutitjulu.
Adopting the Hostplus SANFL League’s top-five finals system with an expanded 12-team competition this season, the SANFL APY League will have its Elimination (12.30pm) and Qualifying Final (2.30pm) take place consecutively on August 9.
Mutitjulu has been the benchmark throughout the minor round and will be hard to beat on its home turf at the base of Uluru when they face a red hot Mimili Blues outfit.
Amata finished the year in strong form and defeated Mutitjulu last weekend to decide the minor premiership, earning this weekend off with direct path through to the Second Semi-Final on Saturday August 16.
Wintjalangu won the fifth-spot decider last weekend against Imanpa to secure a finals spot and will be facing a highly talented Finke Crows outfit who are beginning their hunt for back-to-back premierships in the Elimination Final.
Week 2 of the finals series will take place in Amata with another double-header of fixtures for the Semi-Finals before the Preliminary Final (Saturday August 23) and Grand Final (Saturday August 30) will be played at Ernabella.
The SANFL APY Softball League will also begin its finals series this Saturday, under the same final five format with double-headers played at the same venues on the same dates for the first two weeks of finals, before also heading to Ernabella for the Preliminary and Grand Finals.
Spanning over 200,000km in remote South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia, the APY League is an integral part of SANFL’s First Nations football programs.
The traditional APY Lands teams (Indulkana, Mimili, Fregon, Pukatja, Wintjalangu, Amata, Central Swans and Pipalyatjara/Kalka) have this season been joined by Northern Territory-based teams Finke, Imanpa, and Mutitjulu, and Western Australia team Wingellina.
