Dedicated administrators, coaches, umpires and ambassadors have been congratulated for their unwavering commitment at the 2022 SANFL Community Volunteers Awards night at Adelaide Oval.

Highly-respected South East stalwart Scott Duncan was recognised as the Community Football Administrator of the Year for his tireless contribution to football on the Limestone Coast.

Acting as an invaluable advisor to SANFL’s Community Football team, Scott has actively supported the establishment of the new Limestone Coast Women’s Football League whilst acting as a member of the Limestone Coast Regional Council which undertook a review of competition structures in the South East.

This year, he played an integral role in the 2022 SA Country Championships and guided the team through the reintroduction of the SA State Country Game, that had been in abeyance for two years due to Covid-19.

Introduced for the first time, the SANFL Community Football Facility of the Year Award was presented to the City of Campbelltown for its redevelopment of the Max Amber Sportsfield at Athelstone Football Club.

One of five nominations, the Max Ambers Sportsfield redevelopment included excellent stakeholder engagement, ensuring functional design combined with maintaining club identity.

The facility also sought to integrate energy efficiencies via battery provision, use of solar and water recycling that ultimately assists the club with a sustainable model of operation.

High-profile names to also receive awards on the night included Norwood premiership champions Matthew Panos and Garry McIntosh.

Panos, who kicked the winning goal in the 2022 Hostplus SANFL League Grand Final, got the nod as Secondary School Ambassador of the Year while McIntosh, one of the greats to play at The Parade, was the Redlegs’ Auskick Coordinator of the Year for the Metropolitan Zone.
