A quartet of Statewide Super Women’s League stars are set to shine at elite level after having their names called in the 2020 AFLW Draft on Tuesday night.
South Adelaide pair Teah Charlton and Indy Tahau, West Adelaide’s Rachelle Martin and North Adelaide’s Ashleigh Woodland all had their stunning form rewarded during the virtual event broadcast on the AFLW website.
Panthers premiership forward Charlton was first taken by Adelaide at Pick No.4, receiving a warm welcome from superstar teammate Erin Phillips, who presented her with a No.25 guernsey for 2021.
Tahau, who won the medal for best afield in the 2018 SANFLW Grand Final, will head to Queensland after being chosen by the Brisbane Lions at Pick No.37.
Ball magnet Martin, who made her AFLW debut for the Crows this year as a train-on player, now gets her chance on the senior list at West Lakes after a stunning 2020 SANFLW campaign which netted her the competition’s Best-and-Fairest award.
Woodland – picked by the Crows at No.47 – is arguably the most versatile player selected in the AFLW Draft having won this year’s Statewide Super Women’s League Leading Goalkicker award spending significant time in the midfield.
South Australia could have more players chosen as Free Agents this week, with Collingwood understood to be interested in at least one Croweater.
Magpies AFLW coach Steve Symonds is well-versed on the talent in the Statewide Super Women’s League having coached the Redlegs to their inaugural premiership in 2017.
