SANFL Thanks Volunteers

By ZAC MILBANK

SANFL is celebrating National Volunteer Week by recognising its tireless volunteers at football clubs across the state.

Each weekend, tens of thousands of volunteers roll up their sleeves at junior and senior level to ensure the game of Australian Football runs smoothly in South Australia.

Whether they be administrators, umpires, trainers, scoreboard attendants, timekeepers or work in the canteen or BBQ, volunteers show a tremendous amount of unwavering loyalty to their football club or league.

”We believe that football is more than just a game, it connects communities, and provides personal development opportunities,” SANFL General Manager Football Adam Kelly said.
”We acknowledge this is a shared belief across football and it is all of us involved, as collective custodians of the game, who are delivering a significant and immeasurable community benefit to the people of South Australia through football.

”And quite simply, without volunteers, this would not be possible.”

This includes those volunteers at SANFL clubs, in SANFL’s Community Football Leagues, the SANFL Juniors Competition and the SANFL APY League in the far north of South Australia.

Entering its third year, SANFL will again be seeking nominations for the SANFL Statewide Super Volunteer of the Year Award, which was won by Millicent’s Craig Tunkin in 2017 and Crystal Brook’s Mick Fogarty in 2018.

Fogarty, who has been involved with the Crystal Brook Football Club for more than two decades, was presented with his award at the 2018 SA Football Hall of Fame and Magarey Medal presentation, along with the shortlist of finalists.

SANFL also conducts its annual Key Volunteers Dinner each November, where more than 60 volunteers from metropolitan and country zones are acknowledged at the Adelaide Oval for their valuable time and effort across a lengthy period of time.

Stay tuned to the SANFL website for your chance to nominate a worthy candidate from your club in the 2019 SANFL Statewide Super Volunteer of the Year Award.
