Match Day FAQs: Hostplus SANFL League and Community Football

Are there crowd restrictions at SANFL grounds?

All SANFL Clubs hold SA Health approved COVID Management Plans for their venues, with all Clubs approved for attendance for over 4,000 patrons.

So all Members and supporters can get along to games!

Are there crowd restrictions at local community footy games?

Due to continued restrictions and SA Health requirements, currently spectators are still capped at 1000 people at community football matches (unless the venue has an approved COVID Management Plan allowing more).

Do I need to wear a mask when attending football matches (SANFL and Community Football)?

Masks are not mandatory when attending outdoor events such as the football. However, masks still must be worn when inside public venues, which includes bars, restaurants, licenced club etc, unless you are eating or drinking.

Masks, however, are encouraged to be worn where spectators are unable to physically distance or in congested areas such as at entry gates, queuing at food/drink outlets etc.

Children under the age of 12 are not required to wear a mask.

Do I need to be vaccinated to attend SANFL games?

There is no vaccination mandate in place for entry to SANFL venues for spectators. However, for any SANFL matches being played at Adelaide Oval (i.e. SANFL showdowns, Finals Series), it is a requirement to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination upon entry to the venue (unless exempt from vaccination on medical grounds).

Please note that SANFL has a vaccination policy in place for its staff and some of its competitions/programs. Community Football, which includes all affiliated leagues and SANFL Juniors, does not come under the SANFL Vaccination Policy.

SANFL strongly encourages everyone to get fully vaccinated.

Do I need to be seated at matches or can I stand?

No, you can choose to be seated or stand – including while eating and drinking.

Patrons are still encouraged to maintain physical distance from those not known to them.

What do I need to do to keep myself and others safe?

We all have a part to play in keeping the community COVIDSafe:

  • Stay home if you are feeling unwell, and seek testing if you have any COVID, cold or flu symptoms
  • Wash your hands often and cover coughs and sneezes in your arm
  • Use the COVIDSafe check-in QR Code or manual register when entering any indoor areas
  • Follow the advice of all venue and club staff
  • Maintain 1.5m physical distance from others not in your household or social group
  • Wear a mask whenever inside public venues and when physical distancing isn’t possible

Will canteens and bars be open?

Yes. Full food and beverage services are available at SANFL venues on match day, ensuring an enjoyable day out at the footy. Check Club websites and Facebook pages for more information on what’s available.

Community football clubs also can sell food and beverage from bars and canteens (including barbecues).
