Vale Allan Roberts

SANFL is mourning the passing of distinguished boundary umpire Allan Roberts.

Inducted into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2004, Allan officiated in a then record-breaking 342 League matches after commencing with SANFL in 1960.

A SANFL Umpiring Life Member and a Life Member of the SANFL Umpires’ Association, Allan also ran the boundary in nine interstate matches and 19 SANFL League finals, including seven grand finals.

Upon his retirement in 1985, Allan continued to remain involved as SANFL’s Boundary Umpires Skills Coach from 1998 to 2003 while also acting as a SANFL Boundary Umpires Observer from 1992 to 2018.

Allan also spent four years as a field umpire in SA Country Leagues while also officiating in South Australian School Football from 1987 to 1998.

SANFL extends its deepest sympathy to the Roberts family as it honours Allan’s outstanding service to the game in South Australia.
