Glenelg’s Lachie Hosie wins 2023 Jack Oatey Medal

By ZAC MILBANK

Stephen Kernahan, Tony Hall and now….Lachie Hosie.

Glenelg’s match-winning forward is still pinching himself that his name now rests alongside the Bays’ great forwards to win a Jack Oatey Medal as best afield in a Hostplus SANFL League Grand Final.

But with a game-breaking haul of 6.1 from 12 disposals and four marks, the Tigers spring-heeled goal kicker will deservedly be forever next to the champion black and gold spearheads.

The 26-year-old, having missed the Tigers’ 2019 flag and a member of the losing 2021 Grand Final side, was determined to add a premiership medal to his Ken Farmer Medal earned this year.

Glenelg’s No.20 polled a total of 20 votes, to edge out hard-working midfielder Corey Lyons on 18 and 2019 Jack Oatey Medallist Matthew Snook, who polled 10 votes.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, Hosie talks openly about his special relationship with coach Darren Reeves, together with the selfless roles played by fellow forwards Liam McBean and Luke Reynolds, in allowing him to hit the scoreboard.
