  • Chief Commentator with Ian Aitken, Ted Langridge, Bob Shearman and Wally May – “Comment Wally May” on Channel 9 replays became the catchcry of the 70s

As testament to his professionalism his colleagues offer the following:

  • Max was an “ideas man”, helping develop how football was covered in the electronic media – he was prepared to ask “why not do this?”
  • Max broke new ground when he recommended that Fran Shearman (wife of the late Bob Shearman – SAHOF member) interview Sturt ruckman Rick Davies on his farm
  • Max was considered one of the best on radio – he hosted 2 weekly shows and appeared on “Stump the Sports”
