SANFL is mourning the passing of South Australian Hall of Fame inductee Ian Day.
Awarded SANFL Player Life Membership in 1965, Ian played 135 SANFL League games for West Adelaide (67) and South Adelaide (68) from 1952 to 1964.
A member of South’s famous 1964 premiership team, Ian was a crafty forward who booted a total of 80 goals for the Bloods and 98 for the Panthers.
Following his retirement, Ian made his mark off the field as one of SANFL’s most decorated television commentators for three decades.
Starting with Channel 7 in 1965, he also worked for Channel 9 before retiring with Channel 2 in 1994.
Inducted into the SA Football Hall of Fame in 2007, Ian was also inducted into the Adelaide Oval Media Hall of Fame in 2017.
SANFL extends its deepest sympathy to the Day family as it honours Ian’s outstanding service to the game in South Australia.
