EP football to benefit from new regional board

The future direction of community football on the Eyre Peninsula will benefit from the formation of a local SANFL Regional Football Board.

The Board’s establishment follows the restructure of football in the region prior to the 2021 season and will represent the four football leagues – Eastern Eyre, Great Flinders, Port Lincoln and Western Eyre.

SANFL Head of Community Football Lisa Faraci said the formation of the board followed extensive consultation with all community football stakeholders on the Eyre Peninsula over the past 18 months.

“The new board will support governance of football in the region and ultimately be there to ensure the future sustainability of our sport,” Ms Faraci said.

“Importantly, it will work in collaboration with SANFL and the EP football and netball community to set the strategic direction.”

Board Chairman Peter Treloar said the board would work with the local community to continue to review competition structures on the Eyre Peninsula, with a priority to develop a strategic plan for delivery of football in the region.

“Football and netball are part of the social fabric of regional communities, but it was recognised that leagues and clubs need extra resources and support to make decisions which are in the best interest of the whole EP region,” he said.

The Regional Football Board, which replaces the previous EP Regional Council, will comprise appointed representatives from the local community, EP leagues, netball, SANFL and Norwood Football Club.
