South Australia’s strength on the national stage is shining through after a host of SANFLW draftees were recognised at the 2024 AFLW Awards on Monday night.
Adelaide captain Ebony Marinoff, a SANFLW premiership player with Glenelg, capped off her stunning campaign by being crowned the AFLW’s best and fairest for season 2024.
The prolific midfielder, who was adjudged best afield in the 2021 SANFLW Grand Final, polled 23 votes to become the second South Australian to win the prestigious individual award, alongside Erin Phillips in 2017 and 2019.
Originally from the Morphettville Park Football Club, the 27-year-old’s trophy cabinet is now bulging with three premiership medals, seven All Australian selections, a Rising Star award and two club champion titles.
Marinoff was also one of three SANFLW products to earn selection in the 2024 AFLW All Australian team, joining fellow Crows Caitlin Gould (Glenelg) and Chelsea Biddell (West Adelaide).
Port Adelaide prodigy Matilda Scholz underlined her brilliant campaign by snaring the 2024 AFLW Rising Star award whilst also earning the nod for the 2024 AFLW Mark of the Year.
Scholz, who began her career with the Bays in the SANFLW, edged out Power teammate and fellow Croweater Shineah Goody to claim the title for best first year player, joining fellow South Australians Marinoff (2017) and Hannah Ewings (2022) as previous winners.
While Scholz was fittingly recognised for her towering overhead mark against Collingwood, Adelaide’s Hannah Munyard couldn’t be beaten for 2024 AFLW Goal of the Year.
Munyard, a dual SANFLW premiership player with South Adelaide, managed to produce a stunning checkside effort from the boundary line against St Kilda.
