North Adelaide exploded with a six-goal third quarter to keep its season alive with a vital 28-point win against a wasteful Glenelg at Prospect Oval.

Trailing by four points at half-time after trading blows with the reigning premier, the Roosters set up their victory with an efficient performance in the premiership stanza.

Despite only having one more inside 50m entry and 12 more disposals for the term, Jacob Surjan’s charges slammed on six straight while restricting the Bays to just four behinds.

North premiership forward Mitch Harvey was a key architect during the defining period as he booted three of his five goals for the match to strengthen his grip on the Ken Farmer Medal.

Harvey’s sharp-shooting was a hallmark of North’s win as they piled on 10 majors without a miss, conversely Glenelg butchered its opportunities to tally eight behinds in succession and two more scoring shots.

”That’s huge in the context of the season against a really good side in Glenelg,” Harvey told Channel 7 after being awarded the Coles Value Player.

”It keeps us alive and gives us some confidence so it’s a big win. Our third quarter was awesome, winning contests around the ground.

”At the back end of the year, the role for me is to be a deep option and give a target for the way we want to play.”

The Roosters are now level with fifth-placed Woodville-West Torrens with seven wins heading into tomorrow’s matches, making up valuable percentage with the comfortable triumph against the Tigers.

The evenness of North’s win was illustrated by premiership forward Keenan Ramsey, recast as a defender, leading the disposals tally with 19 to edge out Harrison Wigg (18) and Campbell Combe (17).

Tall utility Dyson Hilder was outstanding for the Roosters playing multiple roles, finishing with 16 disposals, six marks, eight tackles and eight clearances.

Assisting Harvey on the goal scorers list were Nigel Lockyer, Sam McInerney, Frank Szekely and Jed Dignan, who all booted two majors for the hosts.

Glenelg, missing a golden chance to all but secure third spot, racked up 18 more inside 50 entries but its inaccuracy proved fatal as it finished with 10.15 (75).

Defender Max Proud chalked up a team high 22 disposals and eight marks while James Bell (20 disposals) and Matt Allen (19 disposals) worked hard through the midfield for the visitors.

Nick Stevens was a major positive for the Bays as he looked composed in the back half in just his third game, finishing with 19 disposals and seven marks.

Luke Reynolds booted 4.5 in his 150th Hostplus SANFL League game to register his 200th career goal while Cole Gerloff had 13 disposals and five tackles in his 100th outing.

Sturt secured its double-chance in September with a 34-point victory against Central District at Thomas Farms Oval.

Fuelled by stunning displays from star midfielder Will Snelling and powerful forward Connor McFadyen, the Double Blues led at every change as they ramped up the pressure on Norwood for the minor premiership.

Banking its 11th win in succession, Sturt is just 0.6 per cent behind the ladder-leading Redlegs as it boasts the competition’s stingiest backline.

Even with veteran premiership defender Guy Page being rested against the Bulldogs and Tom Lewis being managed in Round 16, the hosts continue to share the workload impressively by playing an ominous style of team defence.

Snelling, expected to be a front-runner for the Magarey Medal, racked up 31 disposals, 12 clearances and eight tackles while his captain James Battersby had 26 possessions, seven clearances and five tackles.

McFadyen is looming as Sturt’s missing premiership link in attack, displaying his presence with 15 disposals, eight marks and 5.5 as teammate James Mathews chimed in with a pair of majors.

Central will now face Glenelg in Round 18 in an intriguing battle for third spot, Magarey Medallist Harry Grant leading the way against the Blues with 25 touches.

Rebounding defender Rhett Montgomerie battled hard for the Dogs with 21 disposals and 10 marks while Kai Pudney returned from the Reserves to register 20 disposals.

Norwood responded to its Round 16 loss in the best way possible with a crunching 55-point win against South Adelaide at The Parade.

Still with their noses ahead of Sturt in the race for the minor premiership, the Redlegs restricted the Panthers to just one goal in the first half while establishing a match-winning 51-point lead by the main change.

From there, Jade Rawlings’ men cruised to victory with a monster 56-22 advantage at the clearances together with a commanding 50-30 inside 50 lead.

Jack Oatey Medallist Harry Boyd was a dominant force across the ground with 30 disposals, 16 clearances and 54 hit outs to lead the Redlegs in stunning fashion.

Boyd provided plenty of opportunities for teammates Billy Cootee and Matthew Ling, who collected 21 disposals each while Baynen Lowe again hit the scoreboard from the midfield with 2.3 from his 20 touches.

But the big story for the hosts was the breakout display from emerging forward Izaak Twelftree, who nailed a career-high six goals straight from 21 disposals and six marks.

Tristan Binder made his first League appearance for the Legs in 2024 to finish with 2.4 from his 15 disposals and six marks.

South’s Elliot Dunkin was his team’s leading disposal-winner with 17 while Phoenix Hargrave impressed in his fourth League game with 15 disposals and two goals, to match teammate Liam Fitt on the goal scorer’s list.
