Central District premiership utility Lauren Breguet didn’t expect to be mixing it with South Australia’s best footballers after growing up in country Victoria.
A Mildura resident, Breguet was a keen basketballer but on the insistence of her Mum, decided to give footy a go for the first time in 2019.
Speaking on SANFL Radio, the 20-year-old said a move to SA beckoned due to a change in her Dad’s employment.
And she hasn’t looked back since arriving in Tanunda and joining the Bulldogs for her Hostplus SANFLW League debut as a 16-year-old in 2020.
Despite still not admitting to being a true blue South Australia, Breguet relished her chance to don the cherished red guernsey at the AFLW U19 National Championships in 2021.
Two years later, she was tasting the ultimate success with the Doggies, as they edged out South Adelaide in a thrilling SANFLW Grand Final.
As she approaches her 50th SANFLW League match, against Sturt at Thomas Farms Oval on Saturday, Breguet remains well on track to reach triple figures wearing the red, white and blue.
