Central District captain Shelby Smith loves to rib her dad Greg about her footballing achievements.
Immediately after the 32-year-old earned her premiership medallion last year, she reminded him that he was unable to do the same throughout his 100-game career with the Bulldogs.
And now, Smith is set to reach another milestone as she chalks up her 50th Hostplus SANFLW League game against South Adelaide on Saturday.
Originally a keen netballer, Smith joined Eastern Park Football Club in 2017 before making her SANFLW debut with the Dogs in Round 1 of 2020.
Ever since, her bond with her father has continued to strengthen as she leans on him for advice while continuing to collect personal accolades.
Firmly entrenched as one of the best tacklers in the competition, Smith won the medal for best afield in last year’s Grand Final, adding to her four consecutive best-and-fairest awards with the Bulldogs.
Now, the next generation of the Smith family, through Shelby’s daughter Amarni, is being introduced to the club while being a regular presence at training and matches.
