South Australia is gearing up to begin its title defence against Western Australia in Game 1 of the 2023 AFL U18 Girls National Championships in Perth on Sunday.

Unveiling their leadership group to be headed by captain Piper Window and vice captain Shineah Goody, the Croweaters will tackle the Sandgropers from 1.20pm in Joondalup.

The SA U16 team will be coached by Jason Rivett, with Charlotte Riggs, Molly Brooksby and Lauren Young rounding out the leaders set to sport the cherished red guernsey.

Rivett will be assisted by Bill Economou, Craig Lum and SANFL’s Bek McMahon and Jack Hannath, with the squad training since Tuesday February 7 in preparation for its three matches at this year’s NAB AFLW U18 National Championships.

The Croweaters – also featuring Hostplus SANFL League stars Elaine Grigg and India Rasheed – will also travel to confront Victoria Metro in Melbourne (July 9) before hosting Queensland on Sunday July 16.

In between, they will also confront an SA U23 side on June 25, which will include star players from the Hostplus SANFLW League.
