Round 3 Statewide Super Women’s League Weekend Wash-up

Woodville-West Torrens forward Kiana Lee pushed her team across the line by three points against Glenelg in a thrilling Round 3 Statewide Super Women’s League match.

Lee’s 25m set shot at goal cleared the line eight minutes into the fourth term, allowing the Eagles to cling on for their first win of the season at Hisense Stadium.

Eagle Shineah Goody showed off her defensive skills in the wet with 11 tackles to go with 16 touches while captain Annie Falkenberg collected 14 possessions.

Glenelg captain Ellie Kellock booted her team’s sole goal of the game during the second term while Jessica Bates had 15 disposals and 12 tackles for the Tigers.

Norwood fans were forced to withstand a nail-biting fourth term before the Redlegs held on for a two-point win against Sturt at Coopers Stadium.

Neither team managed a major in the final quarter, ensuring Elizabeth Drake’s goal late in the third term for the hosts would be enough to land the premiership points.

Morgan Johnston and Jessica Macolino each chalked up 16 possessions for Norwood while Elisha Gallagher had 14 to add to her opening goal in the first quarter.

Sturt was led by Uraidla signing Alisha Gepp, who tallied a game-high 20 disposals while ruck Amy Brooks-Birve and former Eagle Chloe Forby were the Double Blues’ goal kickers.

North Adelaide overcame a scoreless first quarter to beat West Adelaide by 19 points at Hisense Stadium.

The Roosters then managed to boot two goals in the second and fourth terms to extend their winning streak to three at the top of the table.

North co-captain Leah Tynan finished with 16 disposals and five tackles while Jaimi Tabb was influential with 13 possessions and a goal.

West was well-served by former Carlton defender Sharnie Whiting, who had 21 disposals while 15-year-old Lauren Young continued to impress with 19, four marks and four tackles.

South Adelaide secured its first win of the season after edging out Central District by five points at Coopers Stadium. 

Despite not kicking a goal until Jess Kirk booted truly inside the opening 30 seconds of the third term, the Panthers’ two final term majors were enough to secure victory.

Sophia Flanagan-Sjoberg and Gypsy Schirmer led the way for the victors with 17 disposals and 16 disposals apiece while Kirk and Jorja Hooper kicked two goals each.

Central captain Shelby Smith battled hard to collect 17 disposals, eight tackles and five clearances while impressive youngster Madison Lane had 18 possessions and six marks.
