Jeff Andrews departs Central District

Central District has parted ways with first-year Statewide Super League coach Jeff Andrews.

Enticed from VFL club Werribee this time last year, Andrews inked a three-year deal to coach at Elizabeth until the end of the 2022 season.

”The Board and Management thank Jeff for his contribution to the Club and wish him every success in his next coaching endeavour,” Central CEO Kris Grant said.

”Furthermore, contrary to any reports appearing in the media, the Club has not appointed Paul Thomas as Senior Coach and has not spoken to any other person in regard to the position at this stage.

”No further comment will be made at this time.”

The Bulldogs didn’t manage a League win until defeating West Adelaide in Round 9, having drawn with the Bloods in Round 2.

But the youthful side finished the 2020 season full of promise, defeating Norwood and minor premier Woodville-West Torrens in the last month while also losing to reigning premier Glenelg by one-point in Round 13.

Central finished seventh, with three wins, a draw and 10 losses in 2020.

“I am disappointed to have parted ways with Central District Football Club and I wish the players every success in the future,” Andrews said.

“Like all sporting organisations, the Club has faced unprecedented challenges this year and I believe the team has developed and will continue to progress in 2021.

“My intention is to return to Melbourne with my family and continue my coaching career.”
