West Adelaide midfielder Ed Allan has won the 2021 Reserves Magarey Medal despite playing just 12 matches this year.

In his second season with the Bloods after being recruited from Sturt, Allan polled 17 votes to edge out Glenelg pair Kyle Crompton on 15 and Tom Condon on 14.

The hard-running Allan attracted maximum votes in three matches, two coming in a strong finish to season which yielded 11 votes from his final five matches.

Featuring in six League games in 2021, the 22-year-old was regularly under the umpires’ watch while averaging 26.5 disposals and five clearances while playing in the seconds at Richmond.

The left-footer is the first West player to win the Reserves Magarey Medal since Nick Homburg shared it with Central District’s Travis Schiller in 2013.

Eagle Lachlan Hoile placed fourth with 13 votes while four players who all played League football this year – Glenelg’s Jackson Edwards, Sturt’s Mani Liddy, Norwood’s Cole Gerloff and South’s Fraser Turner – finished with 10 votes.
