SANFL is mourning the passing of South Australian Football Hall of Fame member Merv Agars.
A South Australian State representative and West Adelaide premiership player, Agars was inducted into the SA Football Hall of Fame in 2002.
Featuring in 106 SANFL matches, Agars played in the Bloods’ 1947 premiership and was the club’s leading goal kicker in 1951.
Upon his retirement in 1952, Agars continued to flourish off the field, becoming the longest-serving sports editor – 19 years – at The Advertiser.
He also wrote a book on his beloved West Adelaide Football Club, entitled ”Bloods, Sweat and Tears.”
