SANFL CEO Jake Parkinson said 2017 will not only mark 140 years of league football in South Australia but also the start of a thrilling journey for the SANFL Statewide Super Women’s League.

“These are exciting times for women in football,” Mr Parkinson said.

“We’ve seen strong growth in the women’s game across the State with participation jumping 60% across the various age levels.

“SANFL has a commitment to provide more opportunities for young women, with the new Women’s League providing the necessary stepping stone for those aspiring to the elite AFLW level.

“We are extremely proud to provide the necessary platforms for women to participate, develop and excel in our great game, and we look forward to witnessing the evolution of our newest competition.

“We have invested in player development and education to ensure the best possible start for the League.  We will also be live streaming all games with live scores and stats also accessible through the SANFL App.

“We encourage every footy fan to come along to The Parade on Friday night to show their support to each of the players who are set to make their mark on the inaugural competition.”

Entry to all Women’s League games throughout the season will be free.
