SANFL KEY VOLUNTEERS DINNER

Published on: Nov 14 2016 | Author: Zac Milbank |

For the past five years, Warwick Giles has been a tireless volunteer for the Roxby Downs community in South Australia’s Far North.

And on Friday night, Warwick – the 2016 SANFL Volunteer of the Year – was one of more than 250 volunteers across the State honoured at the annual SANFL Key Volunteers Dinner at Adelaide Oval.

Officially the Vice-President of the Roxby Downs Junior Football Association, Warwick also devotes his time into being an umpire, coach and even barbecue chef on any given Saturday.

With two sons who play in the Roxby Downs Junior Football Association, Warwick is also not afraid to roll up the sleeves weekly to mark the lines on the Oval as well as run water for one of the local A-grade teams.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, the 38-year-old said he was passionate about giving back to his community whilst also helping his sons flourish in a team-orientated environment.

As part of his award, Warwick and his wife Amanda were able to attend the 2016 AFL Grand Final at the MCG, as well as being involved in the Grand Final Parade on the Friday before the match.

Other significant award winners were Howard Branson – who won the AFL Merit Award and 10-year service award winners Trevor Wortmeyer and Kevin Tannebring.
