Norwood teenager Nikki Gore has earned the first Powerade Star Search nomination for the SANFL Statewide Super Women’s League after her eye-catching performance on Friday night.

Aged just 16, Gore didn’t look out of place playing against stronger women as she collected 17 disposals while also laying six tackles in the Redlegs’ win against North Adelaide at The Parade.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, the AFL Women’s Academy graduate revealed she had to fight off a bout of gastro in the week leading up to the match, leaving it until the morning of the game to confirm her availability.

From Christies Beach, Gore has been a lifelong Norwood supporter, leading the League team out on to Adelaide Oval as a mascot for the 2014 SANFL Grand Final.

But now she faces an anxious wait to see if the Redlegs will qualify for the SANFL Statewide Super Women’s League Grand Final as she is heading to the United States for a pre-booked holiday.

As a result, Gore returns just in time for the title-decider to be held at Peter Motley Oval on Saturday April 1.

Similar to the Powerade Star Seach award in the SANFL League competition, each round one player – aged 21 and under – will be nominated from the SANFL Statewide Super Women’s League, with the overall winner earning a prize of $1,000 at season’s end.
