    CLIVE WATERHOUSE ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

Clive WaterhouseThe Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club wishes to advise that Clive Waterhouse has announced his retirement from League Football.

Waterhouse, who is about to turn 35, made his League Debut with the Magpies back in 1995 and was a member of that year’s SANFL Premiership Team before being the number 1 draft pick in the 2005 AFL National Draft and selected by Fremantle. Following an AFL career which included 106 AFL games and representing Australia in the 1999 International Rules Series, Clive returned to the Magpies for the start of the 2005 season. He has played a total of 89 League Games for Port Adelaide and kicked 244 goals, including being the Club’s Leading Goal kicker in 2005 and 2006 with 75 and 52 goals in those seasons.

CEO Matthew Richardson paid tribute to Waterhouse for the contribution he has made to the football club over a long period of time. “The Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club would like to both thank and congratulate Clive for the wonderful service he has given the Club since starting in the Under 19’s back in 1993. Since returning to the Club from his AFL career with Fremantle in 2005, Clive has continued to work extremely hard to get the best out of himself and the example he has set with our playing group in terms of his preparation and commitment has been outstanding. Clive has been playing at the elite level for 16 seasons at both SANFL and AFL level and in today’s game that alone is a fantastic achievement that Clive should be extremely proud of. Combined with a significant list of achievements along the journey including being a premiership player at this Club, the number one draft pick in the AFL National Draft, playing over 100 AFL games and represented his country in the International Rules Series, Clive has had a wonderful career that he can look back on with great pride. The time commitment required to play SANFL football is significant and with a growing family Clive has had enormous support from his wife Meredith and his whole family and we certainly appreciate and thank them for the sacrifices they have made to allow Clive to continue playing over the last few years. We all wish Clive and Meredith every success in the next phase of their lives.”
