COCA-COLA STAR SEARCH - 2008 ROUND 2 NOMINEE
James Turner from the South Adelaide Football Club has been named the Round Two Coca-Cola Star Search Award nominee. Playing his 9th League match, 19 year old Turner was named in the Panthers’ best in their three point thriller over the Port Adelaide Magpies at Alberton Oval on Saturday. James accumulated 17 possessions, playing at full back, including 13 kicks, four handballs, five marks and two tackles. He also created a lot of drive from defence whilst restricting his experienced opponent, Daniel Hargraves, to one goal. Recruited from the McLaren Vale Football Club, James played his first League match for South Adelaide in round 3 of the 2007 season. Rookie listed with the Adelaide Crows in 2007, Turner was part of the South Australian Under 18 team in 2006. Introduced last season, the Coca-Cola Star Search Award recognises the talented youngsters making their mark in League ranks. To be eligible for the Award, nominees are required to meet the following criteria:
Following each round of the home and away season, each competing club nominates one eligible player from their team. A review panel then selects one player as the Coca-Cola Star Search Award nominee. The review panel consists of: Glen Rosser (General Manager - State League Competition) Each weekly nominee receives a gift pack, compliments of Coca-Cola. On the completion of the minor round, one of the 23 nominees will be chosen, by the review panel as the 2008 Coca-Cola Star Search Award Winner. The award carries a winner’s purse of $2000.
