The 2019 SANFL Statewide Super Fixtures have been released, with the Men’s and Women’s Leagues coming together for as many as 18 double-headers next season.
With both competitions now coming under the Statewide Super banner for the first time, the synergies couldn’t be more timely as Good Friday promises to be a feast of Men’s and Women’s football.
Six SANFL clubs will have both of their League teams feature on Friday April 19, with the Men and Women of Glenelg, Sturt, North, Central, West and the Eagles all lacing up the boots on the same day.
With the end of the SANFL Statewide Super Women’s League minor round now extended to the first weekend of May, the first six rounds of the SANFL Statewide Super League will host a selection of Women’s matches in a positive outcome for the rapidly growing element of Australian Football.
”Season 2019 is the first where the eight SANFL clubs will field both men’s and women’s teams following the introduction of Central District and Woodville-West Torrens into the women’s competition,” SANFL General Manager of Football Adam Kelly said.
”The progression in the match day integration of teams at each club across the men’s and women’s seasons is one of the highlights of our match programming in 2019.”
The SANFL Statewide Super League will kick off with a blockbuster opening round starting on Friday March 29 with a clash between cross-town rivals Norwood and Glenelg at The Parade while West Adelaide’s Will Snelling will make his return to City Mazda Stadium to face Port Adelaide for the first time since winning the Magpies’ best-and-fairest in 2018.
On Sunday March 31, the Eagles will host 2018 premier North Adelaide at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval in a salivating Preliminary Final rematch.
The 2018 Grand Finalists, North and Norwood, will feature in the traditional rematch on Anzac Day with the 2019 encounter to be hosted by the Roosters at Prospect.
Friday night lights will again be prominent in the SANFL Statewide Super League, with as many as 12 matches to be played on the big stage at The Parade, ACH Group Stadium and City Mazda Stadium.
Other fixture highlights include Port Pirie hosting a SANFL Showdown between Adelaide and Port in Round 13 while the West End State team will look to avenge this year’s defeat when it tackles the WAFL in Perth on Sunday May 12.
