South Australia’s Mid North community is rounding up the troops to assist Tai Martin-Page in his determined bid to walk again.

Tai is currently in rehabilitation for a spinal injury sustained while playing football for Darwin Buffaloes against the Wanderers on January 6 this year.

A favourite son of the Southern Flinders Football Club, active community member, and past employee of Golden North Ice Cream in Laura, Tai has remained positive after the injury and has followed the team he left in NT ardently, travelling to Darwin to cheer on his teammates.

The Southern Flinders Tigers, where Tai has been a long-time star performer in the Northern Areas Football Association, has rallied to stage an epic day of entertainment and fundraising which includes guest speaker Kevin Sheedy AM and also Graham ‘Studley’ Cornes OAM with his band who will rock the crowd during the afternoon.

Kevin Sheedy AM’s  highly-anticipated presence will certainly add to the great atmosphere and raise vital funds that Tai and his family will receive to enable a safe environment for his recovery at home.

Additionally, on Saturday prior to this fundraiser, the Southern Flinders Tigers will don new guernseys in honour of Tai, and his #19 Guernsey will be auctioned off on the Sunday.

Other major auction items include

  • Roof Climb at Adelaide Oval
  • Hill of Grace Restaurant voucher valued over $1k.
  • Signed AFL merchandise
  • Adelaide Oval Audi Club passes
  • Various holiday and accommodation packages
  • A silent auction will see other guernseys and various items on offer for the day.

The gates will open at 10am, with a $10 per adult and $5 per child (under 17) entry for this great day of entertainment and fundraising for a great person who is passionate about his footy and the community who embrace him.

Some of his Darwin teammates are making the trek, along with other guest footballers from various associated local clubs and also North Adelaide Football Club who will be coordinating a junior football clinic from 10.30am for budding young footballers.

“We are calling on our most ardent friends and associates to make this day a great success and raise funds for Tai’s rehabilitation in his endeavour to walk again,” Southern Flinders Football Club President Brad Winter said.

”We need everyone in the community to rally and come along for a great day of fun and entertainment.”
