He’s been a constant presence in Woodville-West Torrens’ highly successful back six but that doesn’t mean Pat Giuffreda has given up on kicking another goal.
Preparing for his 150th Macca’s League match on Saturday against Norwood at Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval, the Eagles co-captain has only mustered four majors since making his debut in Round 13, 2007.
And three of those four goals came in one match – against North Adelaide in Round 14 of 2013.
Speaking on SANFL Radio, the 30-year-old revealed he injured his quad in the warm-up before tackling the Roosters, forcing coach Michael Godden to start him in attack as he wasn’t prepared to take a risk in defence.
Despite playing under duress, Giuffreda didn’t let Godden down by kicking all three of his goals in the opening half before being shifted back to his customary position in the backline.
A member of the Eagles’ 2011 premiership team, Giuffreda is being driven by the lure of tasting the ultimate success once again knowing he is nearing the end of his ultra-consistent career.
Originally from the Woodville South Football Club, the man known as ”Goofa” doesn’t plan on retiring anytime soon given he hasn’t missed a game in 2018.
