Strathalbyn Football Club is gearing up to take centre stage when it hosts its first JLT Series match on Sunday February 25.
With Adelaide and Fremantle set to lock horns at the home of the Roosters, the local community is buzzing in preparation for the AFL preseason contest which kicks off at 1.35pm.
Speaking on SANFL Radio, Strathalbyn FC vice-president Andrew Batten paid tribute to everyone involved in organising the venue’s preparation as it was used by the AFL to launch the JLT Series earlier this month.
Batten, who has also served as club president, acknowledged the role SANFL’s Community Football department, Alexandrina Council and the Great Southern Football League all played in making the event become reality.
A crowd of close to 5000 is expected at the picturesque location, which has now been enhanced by an improved playing surface and new goalposts fit to AFL standard.
Temporary measures are also being put in place to accommodate the Crows’ coaching staff and the media in the club’s newly refurbished double-storey function centre.
