SANFL is mourning the passing of South Australian Football Hall of Fame member Dave Boyd.

A SANFL League Life Member, SANFL Player Life Member and former SANFL League Director, Boyd passed away on Friday night at the age of 90.

A seven-time premiership player with his beloved Port Adelaide, Boyd played 222 games and kicked 183 goals for the Magpies across a 13-year period.

Boyd’s unwavering commitment to football in South Australia was further underlined by his passion to represent and serve his State, donning the cherished red guernsey on 19 occasions.

The 1956 Magarey Medallist also served as a State selector and Chairman of Selectors for South Australia while also being named the Croweaters’ best against Victoria in 1956.

Revered Port Adelaide player and coach Fos Williams once described Boyd as “classy” and “a perfect footballer with great dash from the centre.”
