Five of the state’s most outstanding contributors have been inducted into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame at Adelaide Oval on Tuesday night.

Five of the state’s most outstanding contributors have been inducted into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame at Adelaide Oval on Tuesday night.

Established in 2002 to enshrine those who have made a ‘’most significant contribution to the game of Australian Football’’, the SA Football Hall of Fame now includes 204 players, coaches,
umpires, administrators and media representatives.

The 2016 inductees now on the prestigious honour roll are:

BRENTON PHILLIPS
Played: 222 SANFL games (140 goals) with North Adelaide, 1981-85 and 1992-98; 10 AFL games (three goals) with Essendon, 1986; 61 AFL games (30 goals) with Brisbane, 1987-1991.

Coached: Sturt, 2002-2006. SANFL under-age teams, 2007-today.

Honours: Magarey Medal, 1993; North Adelaide best-and-fairest, 1993 and 1994; Sturt premiership coach, 2002; Brisbane VFL reserves premiership, 1991; North Adelaide “Team of the Century”, AFL Under-18 Championship winning coach 2013-2014.

ROGER JAMES
Played: 147 AFL games (87 goals) with Port Adelaide, 1997-2005; 76 SANFL games (67 goals) with Nowood, 1995-2005; 48 games (246 goals) with Kersbrook Football Club 2006-2009, 2016; 79 games (143 goals) Barossa District Football Club 2010-2015 (Playing Coach).

Honours: Norwood SANFL premiership, 1997; Port Adelaide AFL premiership, 2004; Port Adelaide Football Club Life Member; The Advertiser SANFL Team of the Year 1995; Kersbrook Premiership (HFL) 2008, 2009; Barossa District Premiership (BL&GFA) 2012, 2013 (Playing Coach).

STEPHEN WILLIAMS
Played: 268 SANFL games (288 goals) with Port Adelaide, 1979-1986 and 1988-1995; 4 AFL games (one goal) with Brisbane, 1987.

Coached: Port Adelaide Magpies, 1996-2003.

Honours: Port Adelaide SANFL premiership player, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1995; Port Adelaide premiership coach (1996, 1998, 1999).

JOHN WYNNE
Played: 85 WAFL games (79 goals) with West Perth, 1966-69; 193 SANFL games (110 goals) with Norwood, 1970-1982; represented SA eight times and WA four times and Australia in 1968.

Coach: West Perth, 1985-86.

Honours: West Perth premiership player, 1969; Norwood premiership player, 1975, 1978; Norwood captain, 1975-1978; WA Football Hall of Fame.

The SA Football Hall of Fame is divided into five eras – 1877-1900, 1901-1930, 1931-1960, 1961-1990 and 1991-present day.

Inductees are selected by the South Australian Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee, which comprises Leigh Whicker AM (Chairman), Laurie Argent, John Halbert AM MBE, Bob Hammond AM, Neil Kerley AM, Chris McDermott, David Shipway, Michelangelo Rucci and Bill Sanders.
