Norwood midfielder Stefan Giro has won the 2016 Macca’s Cup MVP, the first Redleg to win the coveted Under-18 award.

Norwood midfielder Stefan Giro has won the 2016 Macca’s Cup MVP, the first Redleg to win the coveted Under-18 award.

Averaging 35 disposals per game with a competition-high 78 per cent disposal efficiency, the Redlegs’ ball magnet made a significant impression throughout the season.

Originally from Hope Valley Football Club, the 17-year-old also played six Reserves matches this season to go with his 11 in the Under-18 Macca’s Cup.

Giro received his Macca’s Cup MVP nomination after racking up 44 disposals, nine marks, 13 clearances and four goals in Round 17.

Introduced in 2009, the Macca’s Cup MVP Award is presented to the best performing player in the Under-18 Macca’s Cup Competition.

One player is nominated for the Award each round throughout the home-and-away season, with the overall winner selected by a panel of judges chaired by SANFL High Performance Manager Brenton Phillips.

Giro receives a $1,000 cash prize and a trophy courtesy of McDonald’s.
