The city of Mount Gambier is ready to roll out the red carpet for Port Adelaide and Richmond when it hosts a JLT Series match at Malseed Park on Sunday.
To be hosted at the home of the West Gambier Football Club, the contest is expected to attract interest from those in the state’s south east, across the border and even fans from Adelaide seeking a weekend getaway.
Speaking on SANFL Radio, West Gambier president Brenton James said the festivities will begin on Saturday, when the Power squad familiarises itself with the venue before a signing session at 1.30pm.
From 4pm, it will be Richmond’s turn at the picturesque ground, with the Tigers taking things a step further by conducting a 40-minute training session before also engaging with fans afterwards in a meet and greet session.
On Sunday, gates will open from Noon, with SANFL club Glenelg showcasing its best young footballers from their south-east zone in a series of two Academy matches starting at 1pm.
The big clash between the Power and Tigers will start at 4.10pm with tickets available at the gate, however James encouraged people to arrive early to claim the best seating positions.
A tireless volunteer for his club and the local area, James has been busy organising the venue in conjunction with the AFL and SANFL, ensuring the turf is up to standard as well as the facilities on offer to the players.
New goal posts have been inserted at Malseed Park, as well as some refurbishments to facilities which will benefit West Gambier and the Western Border Football League in terms of potentially hosting future AFL and SANFL matches.
