Woodville-West Torrens and Norwood are preparing to do battle in the Grand Final of the Macca’s Cup Under-18 competition at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

To be played from 11.25am as the curtain-raiser for the SANFL League Preliminary Final, the Under-18 Grand Final looks set to be a thriller between two contrasting teams.

The minor premier Eagles boast a very even outfit with Grand Final experience, having appeared in the last three title-deciders in succession.

Speaking on SANFL TV, Eagles coach Shane Reardon said his charges were embracing the opportunity to play at the new home of South Australian football.

Reardon chats about the consistency of his midfield group in Macca’s Cup MVP winner Jake Comitogianni and Harrison Hawkins while Muslim ruckman Based Baqeri continues to thrive on a significant workload.

Yet to win a premiership since the SANFL reverted to the Under-18 Macca’s Cup in 2009, Norwood will call upon its league-experienced contingent in the heat of battle.

McDonald’s SA Under-18 vice-captain Luke Partington is coming off a 25-disposal performance in the Preliminary Final while defenders Harry Cross and Matthew Nunn will also be players for the Eagles to monitor in the Grand Final.

In the ruck, Redlegs coach David Oatey has the luxury of sharing the workload between talented bigmen Luke Surman and Peter Ladhams, who both represented the McDonald’s SA Under-18 team at this year’s AFL National Championships.
