The SANFL President’s chair, which dates back to 1909, will be a part of the 140-year anniversary exhibition at the State Library this year.

SANFL History Centre Manager Chris Halbert said the SAFL carved on the top of the chair indicated it originated before the league changed its name to South Australian National Football League in 1926.

”We believe that it was used for the period up to the end of Football Park, as there are photos of Max Basheer sitting in this chair,” Mrs Halbert said.

”It would have probably have had a thick leather cushion over the years, otherwise some Presidents would have had difficulty seeing over the Commission table.”

The chair will be displayed with a painting of long-serving SANFL President Max Basheer, as well as other significant administrators, in the 140-year Exhibition, which will be held from June 6 until August 13 this year.
