Teenage ruck Jessica Allan headlines a group of six South Australians to be selected at the 2017 AFL Women’s Draft in Melbourne on Wednesday.

Allan, who played for Glenelg in the inaugural SANFL Statewide Super Women’s League, was chosen with the Crows’ first pick – No.8.

The 18-year-old is the sister of Adelaide premiership player Sarah Allan, and starred for the Bec Goddard-coached Allies at the NAB AFL Women’s Under-18 Championships in Queensland in July.

”It will mean the world to me,” Jessica Allan said of playing alongside her older sibling in the tri-colours.

”We started playing together when we were younger at Auskick and now to be together is just spectacular.”

Playing locally for the Salisbury Football Club, the versatile Allan won the vertical and running jumps with heights of 61cm and 76cm and placed sixth in the 20m sprint with a time of 3.34 seconds.

Originally from Millicent in the state’s south-east, Allan is the daughter of former Central District player Keith Allan, who played 69 SANFL games for the Bulldogs between 1987 and 1992.

Allan was joined at West Lakes by Norwood pair Marijana Rajcic and Ruth Wallace, together with Bays team-mate Eloise Jones, who was selected at Pick No.24.

With their second pick at No.16 of the AFL Women’s draft, Adelaide selected Jasmyn Hewett, who moved to Darwin from Port Augusta last year to play with St Mary’s in the NTFL.

Two Croweaters will begin their AFL Women’s careers outside of South Australia, with Tiger Courtney Gum and Redleg Sophie Li selected by GWS and Carlton respectively.

Gum, selected by the Giants at Pick No.25, won the inaugural Best and Fairest Award for the SANFL Statewide Super Women’s League at the age of 35.
